Morgan Freeman Gets It

Filed under: General — Jesse @ 12:33 pm

Amen, Morgan Freeman.

“You’re going to relegate my history to a month?” the 68-year-old actor says in an interview on CBS’ “60 Minutes” to air Sunday (7 p.m. EST). “I don’t want a black history month. Black history is American history.”

And…

“I am going to stop calling you a white man and I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man,” Freeman says.

Made in the Good Ole’ USA

Filed under: General — Jesse @ 9:31 pm

Given that it seems everything in the States is made in Asia, a friend of mine gave me the task of finding something in Taiwan that was made in America. It turned out to be easier than expected as I was able to find something within my first two weeks in the country.

When I first arrived in Taiwan, I went to a small town called Lugu in Nantou County where I spent ten days helping out with an English summer camp put on by a church from Taipei. After classes in the evenings, we got to visit the homes of our students to have Oolong tea and meet their parents. The father of one my students was a police officer. He was on duty the night I was scheduled to visit him so I got to hang out with him and some of his fellow officers at the local police department. While I was there, I quickly noticed the sidearm on the hip of each officer. Given the interest that I have in pistols and the like, I asked them what caliber handguns they used. The proud reply was, “9 em em! Smis an’ Wesson! Made in USA!” And thus, my search for something made in the USA came to it’s successful fruition. Quite anticlimactic, huh?

As the months went on, I began to think that those officers’ “Smis an’ Wesson” handguns would be the the one and only American manufactured product I encountered while in Taiwan. I was proven wrong as a few weeks ago I came across this…

Didn’t see that one coming, did ya?
